PURPOSE:To perform easy recording and erasure by making the spectral reflection factor of a recording medium smaller after high-energy application than in low-energy application. CONSTITUTION:The reflection factor RH after high energy is applied is made smaller than the reflection factor RL after low energy is applied and recording is carried out while, specially, relation RH>alphaRL+(1-alpha) (alpha: ratio of applied energy required to obtain a high and a low reflection state) is satisfied. Then, the recording medium is made of metal or alloy having a crystal structure different from the balanced phase at room temperature by quenching from a high-temperature solid state. Consequently, the medium which provides excellent recording and, specially, erasure is obtained. |
