The burner utilizes a central electrode and means for supplying the electrode with both a low velocity flow and a high velocity flow of combustible gases to the electrode to form a first flame. The first flame is surrounded by a plurality of nozzles that supply additional fuel and oxygen-containing gas to form a large ignition flame.
