PURPOSE:To enhance measuring accuracy and workability, by providing an apparatus for imparting circular arc bendings with different radii of curvature to an optical fiber to be measured and constituting an apparatus for imparting bending with large radius of curvature from a pair of members for imparting bending with the same radius of curvature one of which has a tension imparting apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A wavelength variable light source 12, a control/operation apparatus 10 and an optical detector 14 are provided and the optical fibers 16, 18 connected to the light source 12 and the detector 14 are held by holders 18, 22 and an optical fiber 28 to be measured is held by holders 24, 26. Between the holders 24, 26, not only an optical fiber bending apparatus consisting of a crescent member 30 and a large roller 30 for imparting large radius of curvature to the fiber 28 but also an optical fiber bending apparatus consisting of small rollers 52, 54, 56 each imparting bending with small radius of curvature are provided. The member 30 and the roller 32 impart bending with the same radius of curvature and the member 30 is held in a fixed state while the roller 32 is made movable to directions 34A, 34B parallel to the parts 28A, 28B, 28C of the fiber 28 and further receives tension to the direction separated from the member 30. By this mechanism, measurement can be performed with good accuracy.
