PURPOSE:To remove a smear of a CCD solid state pick up element and improve an image quality by taking a difference of a smear electric charge drawn out from a signal electric charge successively read after entering an image period and a memory. CONSTITUTION:A smear electric charge fed into a horizontal CCD is transferred to a signal detecting circuit 4' by a repeating pulse applied to a horizontal CCD3'. A change-over switch 8-1 inputs a smear signal transmitted from the horizontal CCD to a memory 9, and a switch 8-2 inputs an optical signal to a deducting device 10. The smear signal accumulated in the memory 9 is reduced to 1/alpha by passing through an attenuator 12 to be a smear signal S1/alpha of one line. An optical signal Oa contains the smear signal S1/alpha of one line together with an optical signal Q. When these two signals S1/alpha, Oa are inputted to the deducing device 10, in the output, a real optical signal Oa' in which the smear component is deducted is obtained.
