PURPOSE:To enable visual observation of corrosion and quantitative measurement of thickness subsequent to removal of a corraded layer, etc., by installing on a bridge-beam manipulator operating apparatus, image-developing apparatus of fine-scope, measuring display apparatus of supersonic thickness meter. CONSTITUTION:An arm 3 of a manipulator 1 is operated by handling operating mechanism 7 allowing its end part to approach a specimen piping, etc. and by operating a driving mechanism of a fine-scope 4, the arm is directed to a inspecting area and its condition is inspected by an image on the image dis play apparatus 8. A grinder 5 is fed to a defective area detected by the image and after grinding the surface a supersonic thickness meter 6 is brought to a contact with the ground area and the supersonic wave is emitted for measure ment of the thickness and the measured value is displayed digitally on the display apparatus 9. Thus, visual observation of the corrosion can be made, and quantitative measurement of the thickness of corroded layer after removal of the corroded layer, etc. becomes available, enabling accurate understanding of the condition of the specimen.
