PURPOSE:To form a simplified and small-sized reinforcing part which stabilizes an optical transmission loss by using a melt-liquid crystalline thermoplastic resin which does not shrink on molding, is molecular-oriented in the axial direction of the optical fiber and can decrease the coefft. of linear expansion to <=10<-5>/ deg.C to form the reinforcing member. CONSTITUTION:The reinforcing member 1 is a pair of members consisting of two pieces of columnar bodies 1A, 1B which are composed of the thermoplastic resin exhibiting the melt-liquid crystalline characteristic and have the semi-circular sectional shape obtd. by cutting axially a circular columnar body in parallel. The respective members are formed with round grooves 1C, 1C' for contg. optical fiber cores 2 and a juncture 3 are formed to the planes thereof. The member 1 is molecular-oriented in the longitudinal direction thereof. The optical fiber juncture 3 is set into the round grooves 1C', 1C' of the reinforcing members 1A, 1A and thereafter the member 1 is contained into a jug 5 contg. a heater 4 and is heated for a short period to melt the member 1 and to reinforce the juncture. The orientation of the member 1 consisting of the oriented melt-liquid crystalline resin is not annihilated even if the member is heated and melted at a high temp. as far as such heating is for the short period. The low coefft. of linear expansion in the orienting direction is thus maintained. |
