In applying finishing liquid to a bundle of polyamidic or like filaments said bundle is guided progressively along a given path and a stream of pressurized gas is caused to carry with it the liquid in finely dispersed form and to impinge on said bundle to space the filaments and uniformly distribute the finishing liquid throughout the bundle. In the apparatus shown 10 is a source of compressed air or steam, 11 is a tube connecting the supply 10 to a nozzle 12, 18 is a reservoir containing finishing liquid and 13 a tube connected to the reservoir 18 and which carries the liquid to the immediate vicinity of nozzle 12. Yarn 19 to be treated is conveyed across opening 16 in vacuum conduit 17 in line with nozzle 12. In operation gas issuing from nozzle 12 creates a vacuum and lifts the treatment liquid to the outlet of tube 13. The rapid air current produces an atomizing effect and conveys the liquid on to the yarn 19. A non-metallic pin 15 is arranged in such a manner that the yarn is carried thereagainst by the gas stream thus causing the filaments of the yarn to separate and the liquid to be deposited uniformly. |
