[Also in Division E2] A coin freed lock for e.g. a luggage locker comprises a latch bolt 31 in the locker door 26 with an abutment 77 normally engaged by a pivoted locked lever 74 which is cammed by a coin (or the topmost coin) 70, when in operative position in a shoot in the bolt 31, to permit the bolt to be rotated clockwise by a key to its operative, locking position (Fig. 6, not shown) in which it discharges the coin(s) into a receptacle 29 in the door post. The look may be adapted to be operated by one coin only retained in the bolt until it is returned to its initial position, return rotation of the bolt causing the coin to drop by gravity into a coin return receptacle 61, by removing a stop in the bottom of the coin shoot in the bolt 31 and suitably positioning a spring 102 at the top of the shoot (Figs. 11-14, not shown). A pivoted lever 80 drops when the door is opened so that one of its arms 83 contacts an abutment 85 on the lever 74 to prevent operation of the lock. Arm 82 of the lever 80 is held in the position shown in Fig. 1, when the door is closed, by a magnet 84 on the door post. Coins are inserted through a side opening adjacent magnet 84 and a magnet 63 blocks passage of ferrous slugs into the bolt 31. If anyone inserts a coin and then tries to retrieve both key and money by partially rotating the bolt but opening the door before the bolt can enter the aperture in the door post, (Figs. 9, 10, not shown), the bolt is jammed part-way out to signify attempted fraud. The lock is actuable by different selected numbers and sizes of coins by inserting headed pins 53 into selected apartures 56, 62 and 64. An owner's look cam 42 has four operative positions in one of which it permits the entire lock mechanism to be removed from the door. |
