PURPOSE:To obtain an optical branching and coupling device which prevents the reverse input of the light reflected by a face to an optical fiber for input by inclining at least one face of the end face of the optical fiber and the end face of a rod lens to which said fiber is adhered relative to the optical axis of the rod lens. CONSTITUTION:The light 14 inputted from the optical fiber 10 for input is passed through a locus (d) by the rod lens 8 to arrive at the point intersecting with the optical axis 1 of a semitransparent mirror 2. The reflected light is passed through a locus (e) by the rod lens 8 and is outputted to the optical fiber 11 for output and the transmitting light is passed through a locus (f) by the rod lens 9 and is outputted to the optical fiber 12 for output. The light is partly reflected by the boundary face between the inclined end face of the fiber 10 and 'Cemedain(R)' 13 but since the boundary face is inclined, the reflected light 15 does not propagate in the fiber 10. The light 16 advancing into the 'Cemedain(R)' is again partly reflected by the boundary face with the rod lens 8 but since this boundary face is inclined as well, the return of the reflected light 17 to the fiber 10 is obviated.
