PURPOSE:To make polyolefin hollow yarn permanently hydrophilic by forming a thin film of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer on the polyolefin hollow yarn having fine pores, and then saponifying the film. CONSTITUTION:A thin film consisting of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is formed on at least a part of the wall surface of fine pores of hollow yarn of polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., whose inner and outer wall surfaces are communicated by the fine pores which re formed between the two of many fibrils arranged in the lengthwise direction of the hollow yarn. The content of the vinyl acetate is necessarily regulated to >=20wt%. The polymer concn. is preferably regulated to 1-5wt%. The hollow yarn membrane is heated in an aq. soln. of alkali such as sodium hydroxide for a specified time and saponified. |
