The expansion-compensating element for the surround of a flat-roof covering serves to make allowances for expansions and contractions, to which the sheet-metal covering of the surround or parapet is exposed. The element is of a simpler construction than the prior-art elements of this type. It simply comprises two mutually overlapping sheet-metal strips (10, 11) which are connected to each other by a vulcanised-on strip (30) consisting of elastomeric material. This strip is, however, vulcanised on the metal sheets (10, 11) only beside the overlapping region (12), at (31, 32), and does not adhere in the overlapping region. <IMAGE>
