The invention relates to a clock operated by solar cells. The clock has a base plate which forms on its top side a front panel (11) with time data. A drive device for driving the time data device is provided on the base plate. A number of solar cells (2) which are arranged at a distance from one another on the circular circumference are likewise provided on the base plate for the purpose of supplying the drive device with energy for driving the time data device. The solar cells (2) used here are planar and have a light-sensitive surface one of their two main surfaces, it being the case that they are arranged in a loop at a distance from one another on the circular circumference within a plane parallel to the base plate. In order to transmit the incident light onto the light-sensitive surface of each solar cell by means of a diverted or deflected path, a light-deflecting device (30) is provided on the base plate for the purpose of achieving a higher degree of design versatility with reference to the arrangement of the solar cells (2) within a limited space of the clock while simultaneously maintaining a maximum light-collecting efficiency. <IMAGE>
