PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-quality polymer by controlling foaming during reaction, by transesterifying a dicarboxylic acid component with a glycol component in the presence of three specified compounds and adding polyethylene glycol to the reaction system and polycondensing the whole. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic dicarboxylic acid component based on dimethyl terephthalate and a glycol component based on ethylene glycol are mixed with 1.3-2.5mol% of 5-sodiosulfoisophthalic acid (derivative) of formula I (wherein M is Na, Li or K, A and A' are each a lower alkyl or formula II and n>=2), 0.01-2wt% antioxidant of a hindered phenol type (e.g., formula III) and 0.001-0.5wt% silicon compound of formula IV (wherein R is a 1-20C alkyl or allyl and n is a degree of polymerization) and having a viscosity at 25 deg.C of 10-10,000cSt and transesterified with each other. 0.5-3wt% polyethylene glycol of a MW of 300-4,000 is added to the reaction mixture and the whole is polycondensed to obtain a copolyester.
