The invention relates to a composition for a magnetic recording material which contains at least one coupling agent selected from the group consisting of silane compounds of the formula (I), (II) and (III) <IMAGE> in which R and R' are alkyl radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, n and n' are integers from 1 to 5, and m has the value 0 or 1. This composition gives coatings of improved smooth surface quality and improved adhesion. It is suitable for the production of magnetic discs, magnetic sensors and the like having favourable electrical properties (in particular S/N ratios), favourable floating properties and high film strength and reliability.
