A pneumatic tyre for vehicles is described which is equipped with anti-skid lugs which can be moved out of its tread and withdrawn into the said tread in order, when appropriate on ice, compacted layers of snow or frozen street surfaces, to obtain a better engagement between the wheels of the vehicle and the surfaces on which they are rolling. For this purpose, the anti-skid lugs are arranged so as to be displaceable with at least one shaft in the tyre profile of the tyre body. The shafts protrude into the interior of the tyre body and are held with their inner shaft end at a distance from the inner circumferential face of the tyre body on a spring element which is formed from elastomer foam and rests against the inner circumferential face. With normal operational internal air pressure of the pneumatic tyre, the spring element keeps the anti-skid lugs in their out-of-use position lying within the tyre profile. In order to extend the said lugs into the position of use lying outside the tyre tread, the internal air pressure is to be correspondingly increased, as a result of which the spring element is compressed and, as a result, the anti-skid lugs are extended. The pneumatic tyre can be equipped with an air tube or be of tubeless design.
