The present invention is an extension of conventionally known automatic timers which allow a long-term function to be set only in a cumbersome manner. The invention combines push-button switching and time switching. In addition to time switching, this also allows long-term switching and switching off via any desired push button. The momentary-contact time switching apparatus is used particularly for controlling domestic and courtyard lighting, and passage lighting, and allows individual switching depending on the requirement. Conventional automatic timers, for example in stairwells, switch off once the time period has elapsed, irrespective of whether longer lighting is still required. In addition to the above-mentioned time switching, the invention makes it possible to switch over just to permanent lighting, if required, and to switch off again. Cumbersome switching over to a long-term function, as in the case of present automatic timers, is hence obviated; particularly since said automatic timers are frequently installed at inaccessible points.
