PURPOSE:To reduce considerably the capacity and dead capacity of a Read-Only Memory by obtaining a decoded value by making an address input to the memory 11 bits. CONSTITUTION:The initial 8 bits of a consecutive modified hafman code are input in a code input register 1, the number of '0' before '1' which appears first from the leftmost bit position of the code input register 1 is obtained using the truth table of a priority encorder 3, and the value is stored in a zero count register 5. The code bits of maximum 7 bits following the '2' which appears first are set in the code input register 1, the value shown in a black and white flip flop 2 and the value of the zero count register 5 are input in the Read-Only Memory (ROM)4 as an address value, and a 10 bits signal is output from the ROM4.
