PURPOSE:To attain to enhance the accuracy and miniaturization of a light applied sensor, by setting phase bias by utilizing two total reflections constituted so as to reverse a light path by 180 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:The beam emitted from a light emitting element 21 is split into two by a light receiving element 23 while the other one enters an electrooptical material 27 through a fiber 24, a rod lens 25 and a polarizer 26. At this time, the phase between two polarized beams crossed at right angles is modulated by external voltage. The beam further receives phase bias by an orthogonal prism 28 and a beam path is changed by 180 deg. and oppositely advances in the order of a material 27, the polarizer 26, the lens 25 and the fiber 24 to reach a light receiving element 29 through the beam splitter 22. The change in the voltage applied to the material 27 is observed as the change in the quantity of beam reaching the light receiving element 29.
