PURPOSE:To replace a developing device smoothly and to prevent the generation of a noise, backlash, etc., by providing a selecting means which selects one developing device, a fixed pulley, a rotating member, a revolving pulley, and a toothed belt extended between the revolving pulley and fixed pulley. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 78 sends the one signal of a motor 82 for movement to a motor driving circuit 80 for moving the developing device to move the developing device 33 toward a photosensitive drum 23, thereby a selected developing unit 49b opposite the photosensitive drum 23. Thus, the developing unit 49b corresponding to the selected color is selected and then red copying operation becomes ready. Then, the copy key 73 of a console panel 72 is pressed to start copying operation and a red copy is taken by using the developing unit 49b. Consequently, developing units 49a-49b are revolved through timing belts 57, 60, and 61, so they are revolved smoothly without generating any noise.
