1,100,046. Reflex-reflecting markers. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 7, 1965 [Jan. 10, 1964], No.816/65. Heading G2J. [Also in Division E1] A reflex-reflecting marker for use on road surfaces has a base area at least 1À2 times and no greater than 80 times its height and comprises at least one layer 12 of reflex-reflecting material oriented perpendicular to the base surface 16 and at least one solid wear-resistant transparent mass 10 or 11 arranged in front of the layer 12, which layer 12 consists of a monolayer of glass beads having a refractive index of at least 1À7 and underlying specular-reflective means. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 two layers 12 are flanked by two cylindrical glass rods 10, 11 and bonded thereto with transparent material 13. Flat bottom and top surfaces are formed by wear-caps 14, 15 built up with the material 13. In a modification the layers 12 are bonded to the stem of an I-shaped beam, the rods 10, 11 being secured between the arms of the beam. The spaces between the rods and the beam are not filled. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) three flat discs are grouped in a triangle, and the reflex-reflecting material 12 is bonded to the edges of the discs within the internal triangular space defined by the discs. The discs are held together by a bond material which also provides a wear cap. The reflexreflecting material may be of the form disclosed in Specifications 598, 330 and 556,935. |
