[Also in Divisions B4 and B6] Information in a store 21 is read from a tape 31 or other medium by means of reading heads 1 to 15 and those heads which are separated from one another by a positive step of 8 or a negative step of 7 in relation to the advancing direction of the tape are automatically operated in alternate succession so that the contents of the store are read from the tape during an advance of 15 spacing divisions. The tape is fed continuously or stepwise by means of a sprocket 30. Each component S 1 to S 15 of the store is connected to contacts K1 to K15 on an inner ring of a rotary selector 22. Contacts O1 to 015 on an outer ring of the selector are connected to the individual reading heads. The inner and outer contacts are sensed by means of brushes secured to an arm 24 driven in synchronism with the sprocket 30. The selector 22 may be replaced by an electronic one. The reading heads may work with movement compensation or may convey the tape through the heads. In a modification, the reading heads are arranged on both sides of the tape in alternate succession. |
