TRANSPARENT RESIN HAVING HIGH REFRACTIVE INDEX

PURPOSE:To produce the titled resin having high refractive index and transparency and suitable especially for the correcting lens for grasses, by copolymerizing an unsaturated ester derived from a specific alcohol with other copolymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be produced by the cast polymerization of (A) one or more unsaturated esters (e.g. methacrylates), unsaturated carbonates (e.g. allyl carbonate) or unsaturated ethers (e.g. allyl ether) derived from an alcohol of formula (R1 is H or CH3; X is halogen; p and p' are 2-4; q and q' are 0-1; r and r' are 0-3) [e.g. 4,4'-thiobis(2,6-dibromophenol)] and (B) other copolymerizable monomer capable of forming a homopolymer having a refractive index of preferably >=1.55 (preferably chlorostyrene) at a weight ratio of preferably 10:90-90:10, usually in the presence of a polymerization catalyst.
