PURPOSE:To effectively check absorption reaction of cadmium to water, oxygen and carbon dioxide by applying a specific conductive agent to the surface of the cadmium negative pole for conserving it in an air atmosphere with low moisture. CONSTITUTION:A paste type cadmium negative pole is so made that an intensifying agent and an binding agent are added to an active material mainly composed of cadmium oxide for being kneaded into kneaded paste while being directly applied to the core body followed by being dried. For conserving said cadmium negative pole for an alkaline storage battery, a conductive agent made inclusive of carbon powder and polyvinyl alcohol is stuck to the surface of the cadmium negative pole for conserving in the air atmosphere under relative moisture not exceeding 8%. Due to the coating formed on the surface of the cadmium electrode as a result of sticking the conductive agent said above, the absorption reaction between water, oxygen or carbon dioxide in the air, which is a conservation atmosphere, and cadmium oxide is prevented from generation or suppressed thus effectively checking deterioration in the conservation performance of the cadmium negative pole. |
