PURPOSE:To reduce shift keys, to memorize easily the position of the shift key and to compose easily a complicated sentence by limiting a shift conversion key to one and deciding a shift mode according as how many times the conversion key is continuously depressed. CONSTITUTION:When a key input is discriminated to be a shift key, first a counter register CCT discriminates said input to be zero or not. When it is zero, the value of a memory register N is provisionally stored in the register CTT, which discriminates what the value is. When it is '1', inputted key data is converted according to a capital alphabet converting table SH 1. Two, three and four means that data conversion is made according to a small alphabet converting table SH 2, a HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllable) converting table SH 3 and a KATAKANA (square form of HIRAGANA) converting table SH 4, respectively. A character code converted according to the shift mode decided by the value of the register CTT is stored in a sen tence memory STM, made into a pattern, and the writing is displayed in a display memory DM.
