PURPOSE:To produce the titled resin useful as an agent for improving the water- resistance of a coating for coated paper, miscible easily with dyes, capable of easily dispersing pigments, and having stable viscosity with time, by neutralizing a polyamide amine with an acid, and reacting with epichlorohydrin in acidic state. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be produced by neutralizing (A) a polyamide polyamine derived from (i) a dibasic carboxylic acid and (ii) a polyalkylene polyamine with an acid, and reacting the neutralized product with (B) epichlorohydrin in acidic state. The amount of the acid required in neutralization is preferably the amount to lower the pH of the aqueous solution of the neutralized polyamide polyamine (30% concentration) to <=7, and is preferably <=1 equivalent per 1 equivalent of the amino group of the component C. |
