PURPOSE:To read sheet information having a large width by moving a side guide on the basis of center until an original width is within a prescribed width W and moving one side guide nearly at the position of an original of the width W and moving the other side guide only to an original having a larger width. CONSTITUTION:The side guides 2, 3 guiding an original are moved in a direction perpendicular to a sheet delivery direction while being engaged with guides 27, 28 formed as long holes or the like. The method is constituted that only the left side guide 3 is moved to an original over the sheet size B4 and the interval between the left/right side guides 2, 3 is spread. The information of all faces is read into an original below the size B4 by one sheet delivery. The entire pattern is read for an original larger than the sheet size B4 by feeding the sheet twice.
