PURPOSE:To control properly the synchronous processing of picture read recording by detecting an faulty state where a synchronous buffer memory storing overlappingly a color picture without color drift is overflowed to stop immediately picture generation. CONSTITUTION:An interval between the leading of a picture data write start effective signal IWR 217 to the synchronous memory and the rising of a picture data read effective signal IRD 218 from the synchronous memory is counted by an event counter 158 to count a pulse of an HSYNC (horizontal synchronizing signal) 210. A CPU reads a count value of the event counter from a terminal 219 to detect an error. When the error is detected, a synchronous buffer error code is transmitted to the color printer o stops the function of the color printer therevby relieving the load rapidly.
