NEW MATERIAL:The novel substituted aromatic hydrocarbon wherein at least one of the nucleus hydrogen atom of the aromatic hydrocarbon is substituted with tricyclo[5,2,1,0<2.6>]dec-3-yl group or tricyclo[5,2,1,0<2.6>]dec-4-yl group which may be substituted with lower alkyl. EXAMPLE:Tricyclo[5,2,1,0<2.6>]dec-4-ylbenzene. USE:Additive useful as a softener or tackifier for adhesives. PREPARATION:A novel substituted aromatic hydrocarbon can be prepared by reacting an aromatic hydrocarbon and a lower alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted tricyclo[5,2,1,0<2.6>]dec-3-ene in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst.
