PURPOSE:To produce high-purity yttrium, easily, stably, in high yield, by supplying a specific eluent to a column filled with a chelate resin, and eluting with an acidic solution. CONSTITUTION:A cation exchange resin is filled in a column, a receptor such as H<+> is adsorbed to the resin, a mixed solution of rare earth metals is supplied to the column to form an adsorption band of the rare earth metals, and the adsorbed elements are eluted with an eluent containing a complexing agent (e.g. EDTA) to obtain an eluate in which the rare earth elements are separated from each other to an extent. The fraction having high yttrium content is col lected. A chelate resin having the structure of formula I [R1 is H or 1-4C hydrocarbon group; R2-3 are H or group of formula II (R4 is H, metal or 1-10C hydrocarbon group; i is 1-3; A1-2 are group of formula III or IV; k and lare 0-3; the aminoethyl group contains at least one group of formula II] is filled in a column. An alkaline solution is supplied to the column to regenerate the resin, the above fraction rich in yttrium is supplied to the column to form an adsorption band of the rare earth element, and the element is eluted by supplying an acidic solution to the column to obtain an eluate containing yttrium in high purity. |
