PURPOSE:To produce high-purity yttrium, easily, stably, in high yield, by supplying a specific eluent to a column filled with a cation exchange resin, and eluting with a solution containing a complexing agent. CONSTITUTION:A chelate resin having the structure of formula I [R1 is H or 1-4C hydrocarbon group; R2-3 are H or group of formula II (R4 is H, metal or 1-10C hydrocarbon group; i is 1-3; A1-2 are group of formula III or IV; k and l are 0-3; the aminoethyl group contains at least one group of formula II] is filled in a column. An alkaline solution is supplied to the column to regen erate the resin, a mixed solution of rare earth elements is supplied to the column to form an adsorption band of the rare earth element, and the elements are eluted by supplying an acidic solution to the column to obtain an eluate in which the rare earth elements are separated from each other to an extent. A receptor solution is supplied to a column filled with a cation exchange resin to effect the adsorption of the receptor to the resin, and the above eluate is supplied to the column to form an adsorption band of a rare earth element. The band is eluted with a solution of a complexing agent (e.g. EDTA) to obtain an eluate containing yttrium in high purity. |
