PURPOSE:To execute tab setting operation and listing work easily by forming a data display part and a layout display part for displaying input state and always displaying a tab position set on the layout display part. CONSTITUTION:A maximum printing range LA, RA, a printing range LP, RP, a cursor display C, a tab position T, and an input character CH in one printing line are displayed on the layout display part 212 of a display device 21 which has about a half length of the whole display. Although the tab position T does not appear on the data display part 211, that the 5th position corresponding to a character '0' (reading of a Japanese syllabary) includes the tab T is indicated. The cursor display C is displayed on the position on which the cursor 213 exists in the line displayed at present in relation to the character display CH. Consequently, the relation between the cursor and tab setting position can be obserbed at a glance and the listing work can be easily executed.
