PURPOSE:To prevent a damage of a thin film element at the time of starting and stopping of the contact by installing a flow-out end corner part at both edges of a thin film element forming surface and making special the distance up to a corner part and an element forming surface. CONSTITUTION:At both end parts of a thin film element forming part, a flow- out end corner part 10 is installed, and at the section from the corner part 10 to the element forming surface 5, an extending part DELTAl is installled. In the length DELTAl, a floating clearance of a flow-out end is hm, a floating clearance of a thin film element forming part is hg and an attitude angle is a alpha radian, and the value of K defined by K-hg/hm is selected to 1<K<=1.5, and then, DELTAlis given by (K-1) hm/alpha. In this way, a floating clearance in the gap position of the magnetic head can be kept to the prescribed value, and at the time of starting of the contact, a damage of the thin film element at the time of stopping can be prevented.
