PURPOSE:To check the input state of characters, codes, etc. in the whole lines simply by displaying marks for indicating both the ends of the maximum printing range and a set printing range on a layout display part. CONSTITUTION:The maximum printing range LA, RA, the printing range LP, RP, a cursor position C, a tab position T, an input character CH in one printing line are displayed on the layout display part 212 of a display device 21. Characters A, B in the data display part 211 are ems in a position corresponding to a code I of the layout display part 212, em display is executed. Since characters C, D are ens, en display is executed as shown in a code II. Since the succeeding position is a blank, a blank is displayed as shown in a code III. Since a character F is a double em, the lateral size becomes twice and the character F is displayed as the double em. Since the cursor 213 is in the double em mode at present, the cursor exists on the succeeding two characters after the character F and a cursor display C is displayed also on a layout display part 213.
