PURPOSE:To evaluate the quality of a disc automatically and accurately in a short time by providing a control means which changes automatically the position of a data reading means to read data in various positions and causes a measuring means to perform measurement. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 22 stops a pickup 14 on a set radial line r1 through a motor servo unit 21. A laser light is irradiated from the pickup 14 to a disc 11 to read signals. A measuring circuit 23 switches filters, multiplexers, etc. to perform measurement and supplies output data to the control unit 22. The control unit 22 stores measured and calculated results in a storage circuit 25 through a control circuit 24. The control unit 22 moves the pickup 14 to a radial line other than the radial line r1, and similar measurement and operation are performed again in this position, and thus, the quality of the disc 11 is evaluated.
