PURPOSE:To stabilize operation characteristic by applying a high electric field to a substance to be ionized and providing a pickup electrode which restricts amount of supply of fused ionized substance to the end of stylus electrode in order to feedback an excessive ionized substance. CONSTITUTION:A liquid metal ion source to be used for ion microanalyzer, etc. is formed by a stylus electrode 1, substance 2 to be ionized, a heater 5 for fusing such substance 2, a tray 3 for holding substance 2 to be ionized and a leadout electrode 4 and simultaneously a pickup electrode 12 is also provided to the upper part of tray 3. The substance 2 to be ionized can be returned toward the pickup electrode 12 by applying a high voltage to the pickup electrode 12. Therefore, even when an excessive substance 2 to be ionized is supplied to the end of stylus electrode 1, it can be recovered to the normal condition and stable operation can always be assured. |
