PURPOSE:To make it possible to not only to make the titled apparatus compact but also to reduce vibration, by constituting a type selection mechanism from a type selection orthogonal prism, a mechanism for rotating and stopping said prism, an image forming lens and a mechanism for allowing said lens to linearily move. CONSTITUTION:The frame 12 of a type selection mechanism is equipped with a type selection orthogonal prism 19 for bending the character projection images of character boards 1, 2 and an image forming lens 20 and linearily moves to a Y-direction by a feed screw 14. Said prism 19 rotates to the direction crossing an optical axis 21 at right angles by a pulse motor 18 and gears 16, 17, and the image forming lens 20 is mounted to a base 25 and moved to the Y-direction by a pulse motor 27 and a feed screw 26 to make the optical axis distances up to the character boards 1, 2 constant. The characters on the character boards 1, 2 are selected by the inclination of both character frames 3 by the pulse motor 10, the rotation of the prism 19 and the linear movement of the base 12 so as to make the optical axis orthogonal and the images thereof are sent to a sensitive material mechanism through the prism 19, the lens 20 and prisms 22, 22', 29.
