PURPOSE:To attain accurate recording by generating a pulse in response to the movement of a recording head, frequency-dividing the pulse and using a frequency-division output so as to control the recording of the recording head. CONSTITUTION:An encoder pulse of a motor encoder 7 is frequency-divided into 1/n by a fixed ferquency divider 71a of a frequency divider circuit 71 in the scanning system of the recording head. Then the period error of the pulse is averaged, the motor encoder pulse thetaM whose error is reduced is frequency- divided by variable frequency dividers 71b-71e, the pulse is gated by a magnification mode signal inputted from a line 49 and one pulse is selected and outputted as a frequency division pulse thetaM4. Thus, the pulse thetaM4 of a prescribed period is generated in this way. Then the accuracy is improved and the picture forming with high definition is attained.
