PURPOSE:To reduce the cost a copying machine and to make it small-sized by stopping automatically only the scanning of the exposure device with a mechanical constitution. CONSTITUTION:During a series of copying operations in returning scanning of an exposure device 5, the exposure device 5 reaches the right limit position, and an actuator 44 formed as one body together with the exposure device 5 collides with an engaging pin 40, and a cam 36 is rotated and driven clockwise against the spring force of a tension coil spring 43, and then, a clutch 37 is detached by the cam 36 to stop the exposure device 5. However, a driving shaft 25 continues to rotate clockwise after the exposure device 5 is stopped, and a belt-shaped photosensitive body 13, a developing device 17, a paper feeding device 23, and a clutch shaft 24 are rotated and driven to perform required copying, and the driving shaft 25 is stopped thereafter.
