PURPOSE:To enable real-time confirmation of instantaneously changing positions of a ship, by using a TV camera for information required for position caleulation on co-ordinate axes. CONSTITUTION:Two fixed points A1, A2 and the specified straight-line, L passing through them are defined on board the ship and setting on the land side a co-ordinate having the axis X including the specified angle with respect to the horizontal line N in the horizontal plane and a fixed point B and a position of the ship on the co-ordinate axes is calculated by calculating an angle included by two straight lines connecting the two points A1, A2 and the point B and the line L and an angle included by the line L and the horizontal reference line N. For confirmation of the position of the ship, a TV camera is set on the specified points A1, A2 and each two camera is made to aim at identification marks located on the fixed points and by processing the images of the TV cameras so as to control them for pursuing the marks and by measuring each angle including the directions of the two TV cameras and the line L, each angle including the two straight lines and the line L is determined and thus, the position of the ship can be confirmed.
