The mast assembly M of a lift truck is secured to a carriage 12 which is movable along tracks formed in the walls 17 of a longitudinal opening in the truck body by a ram 20. The load carrier 28, 29 is pivotable about a vertical axis on an arm 26 by a motor 31 and the arm 26 is movable transversely of the truck on the lifting carriage 10 by a motor 24. Limit switches 38, 39 are provided on the arm 26 and carriage 10 and are connected to an electric control circuit of the ram 20 whereby, when the load carrier is facing forwardly and when the arm 26 is at the centre of the carriage 10, the mast assembly may be moved rearwardly until the carriage 10 is located in a transverse opening 19 in the truck body, Fig. 3 (not shown). The centre of gravity of the load is in substantially the same position relative to the truck body in the position shown and in the position in which the mast is retracted. |
