PURPOSE:To attain efficient information retrieval by displaying image information relating to each item in the lump and selecting desired image information among displayed information sets in retrieving information such as photograph and picture. CONSTITUTION:An original to be recorded is converted into an electric signal (video signal) by an image input device 12 and the signal is recorded on an optomagnetic disc device 13 via an input interface I1, a bus 8 and an optomagnetic disc interface I1. On the other hand, when an image display command is given, a video signal being a big head line stored on the 1st page of a page area of the optomagnetic disc device 13 is transmitted and displayed on an image display device via the optomagnetic interface I2, the bus 8 and an image display interface I3 in response to the CPU command. Then the operator operates a keyboard 2 while observing the displayed big head line to select a desired item. Succeedingly, the head line page of the selected item is read from the 2nd page of the page area of the optomagnetic disc 13 and transmitted to an image display device 4, where the information is displayed.
