METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETECTING MOLTEN STEEL LEVEL OF CONTINUOUS CASTING INSTALLATION

PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of detection by converting the video signal of a molten steel surface to digital information, integrating the information for each of scanning lines and comparing the relative change of the integrated value and the preset threshold value. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 3 in a tundish device 1 is poured through a pouring part 4 into a mold device 2. A two-dimensional image pickup means 9 such as television camera is installed diagonally above the mold 2 and the optical axis 13 thereof is intersected with the central axial line 11 of the pouring part 4. Said means is so arranged that the scanning direction of the image pickup plane is paralleled with the molten metal surface 10. The video image taken by the camera 9 is inputted to an image processing means 14 by which at least >=3 stages of digitization process are executed. The information is integrated for each of the scanning lines in at least one field and the integrated value is compared with the preset threshold value. The molten steel level is stably and surely detected by the above-mentioned method without receiving the influence of external light and the luminance change of the subject.
