PURPOSE:To measure the depth of a buried cable by moving a plurality of search coils containing one reference search coil and an angle correcting search coil arranged near the reference search coil in the direction of crossing the buried cable. CONSTITUTION:A search coil moving base 7 is towed sliding over the sea bottom 8 with an investigation ship 12 through a two wire 10. Then, the bury deep (d0) of a cable 9 can be determined by measuring voltages Va and Vb induced in search coils 6A and 6B and an angle alpha. An angle correcting search coil 6C is arranged near the search coil 6A as reference search coil with the coil thereof perpendicular to the coil axis of the search coil 6A. With such an arrangement, measurement errors can be corrected with the angle correcting search coil thereby enabling the measurement of the bury depth at a high accuracy. |
