A metal end closure (50), Fig. 6 (not shown), of a cylindrical container (19<SP>1</SP>) forms a sealing bead (51) with the container body (34<SP>1</SP>) and is crimped circumferentially to form a protective shoulder (42) which extends further to reinforce a circumferential lip (40). Damage is lessened when the bead of one container rides up the bead of another during rough handling of cartons of containers. The container body is formed by spirally winding a paper outer ply over spirally wound layers of paper and metal foil, the foil forming a lining for the body. |
