A framework for panelling and glazing, e.g. of a curtain wall or facade screen, consists of (a) H-section vertical members whose flanges 2, 3 have inwardly facing longitudinal recesses 5 at each edge, and whose central web 1 has longitudinal projections 6 which serve to secure vertical glazing strips 8 and slidable supports 7 for (b) T-section horizontal members 28 to which horizontal glazing strips 18 are attached, the slidable supports 7 each having a base parallel to the web 1 with recesses engaging over and sliding on the projections 6 and being securable at any height on the vertical member, and the horizontal members 28 having sockets of flexible material 26, 27 adjacent the panel or glass edges to allow for expansion of the assembly. Flexible sealing strips 16 are also disposed around all the edges of the panels and glasses 17. The vertical members may have additional flanges 4 as guides for blinds or curtains. The horizontal glazing strips 18 may have condensation drainage channels 19. In assembling the structure, the vertical members are first installed in the building framework, the slidable supports are inserted and adjusted, the horizontal members are mounted on the supports, the panels are positioned, and the glazing strips are secured. In a modification to enable the screen to be constructed from the outside, the T-section horizontal member 28 has its cross-bar portions detachable for insertion from the outside after the panels 17 have been positioned (Fig. 4, not shown). |
