<p>PURPOSE:To remove simultaneously and efficiently copper and tin from molten iron by decarburizing the molten iron with an oxidizing agent having weak oxidizing power in practical vacuum. CONSTITUTION:Molten iron obtd. by melting scrap is decarburized with an oxidizing agent having weaker oxidizing power than oxygen and iron oxide in vacuum of <=20, preferably <=5Torr. Magnesium oxide, silicon dioxide or a mixture thereof may be used as the oxidizing agent. This method is applicable independently of the kind of scrap, and copper and tin can be removed efficiently from molten iron.</p> |
