PURPOSE:To enable a change-over operation to be smoothly accomplished when a two wheel drive is shifted to a four wheel drive by connecting a transfer gear first allowing a free wheel hub with a solenoid arranged on an axle shaft to be connected next. CONSTITUTION:When a selector switch 14 is turned on to the two wheel drive side, only VSV2 is electrically energized. This allows a transfer gear 4 and free wheel hubs 9a and 9b to be in the disconnect condition allowing no torque to be transferred. Accordingly, a propeller shaft 5 and a differential gear 6 are not permitted to rotate. This allows no power loss to be caused permitting neither vibration nor noise to be produced. While on the other hand, the selector switch 14 is turned on to the four wheel drive side, VSV1 is electrically energized. This allows the transfer gear 4 to be connected permitting the propeller shaft 5 to rotate. Subsequently, a position switch 16 is on allowing the hubs 9a and 9b to be electrically energized. This permits the hubs 9a and 9b to be connected late after the actuator AC is operated.
