PURPOSE:To make possible optical logical calculation and storage even with an extremely high-speed light signal by providing a means for impressing bias light to a current non-implanting region. CONSTITUTION:The bias light from a semiconductor laser 3 driven by a power source 4 is impressed via an optical fiber 2 to the current non-implanting region of an optical bistable semiconductor laser 1. The current non-implanting region is formed by removing the part where no electrodes are formed near to the active layer by etching. The end face of the fiber 2 is brought into proximity to the etched groove part thereof from above. The optical bistable semiconductor laser device formed in the above-mentioned manner operates in the same manner as an ordinary optical bistable semiconductor laser but the quantity of the incident light required for setting can be decreased by as much as the light bias Pb exists and therefore the response with the high-speed signal is remarkably improved.
