PURPOSE:To control the operation or rest of a valve, by providing a slider abutting against a valve, slidably in a lifter body which abuts against a cam, and by engaging and releasing them to and from each other by means of a pin actuated by hydraulic pressure. CONSTITUTION:A slider 17 which abuts againt the front end of a valve rod 9b is slidabley disposed in a lifter body 15 which is disposed in a cylinder head 2 so that it is driven by a cam 12. A selector pin 18 which may slide perpendicular to the moving direction of the body 15 and the slider 17, is provided to the body 15 and the slider 17, and is urged in one direction by a spring 19 so that the body 15 and the slider 17 are engaged together. Accordingly, the valve is actuated in association with the motion of the cam 12. When hydraulic pressure is applied to one end of the pin 18, the body 15 and the slider 17 are released from each other due to the movement of the pin 18 so that the motion of the cam 12 is not transmitted to the valve which, therefore, rests. |
