The invention relates to a grinding shoe for pressing a circulating grinding belt of a belt-grinding machine onto the workpiece to be machined. The invention is characterised in that there is provided on the conventional grinding-shoe carrier a pressure strip of a temperature-resistant material, preferably metal, which is narrower than the grinding-shoe carrier. The invention furthermore relates to a process for grinding a plate-shaped material by means of a grinding machine, in which the circulating grinding belt is pressed, by means of a grinding shoe, onto the workpiece to be machined. <IMAGE>
